Mayuri Dance Group
The Mayuri Dance Troupe started in 2005 with four dancers who were very interested in music and dance and wanted to keep their Indian traditions and roots alive while living in Switzerland.
Some of the members of the group are trained classical dancers from the dance forms of Kathak and Bharatnatyam. They perform choreographies which include fusion dances of Indian classical dance and modern movements, folk dances of India from regions such as Rajasthan, Haryana, Bihar, Kerala, Tamilnadu, Gujrat and modern Indian dances to the beats of Bollywood.
The group has 10 members and they have been performing in various events, with India as its theme.
Their latest production is called
"Aaja Nachle - Dance with India". This production traces the roots of today's Bollywood dance from the age old temples and the village squares where dances of joy were performed to retell the Mythological stories or just show the joy and gratitude of common folk at times of harvest, festivals or weddings.
It shows how Bollywood dance is the true form of world dance taking the influences of modern Hip Hop and jazz as well as Salsa from outside India.
